TOWA MFG. co., ltd. is a comprehensive manufacturer of hydraulic cylinders located in Gifu Prefecture. Gifu Prefecture ranks first in the nation for shipment of hydraulic cylinders, holding a national market share of over 30%. Among those companies, we stand apart because we specialize in producing hydraulic cylinders used in "working vehicles," such as tractors and fire trucks, and many of our cylinders hold the No. 1 market share domestically. For example, our cylinders are used in to the ladders on fire trucks, lift gates on delivery trucks, garbage trucks, aerial work platforms, tractors, forklifts, and many other specialized vehicles you see around town.
The hydraulic industry itself is expected to grow by approximately 4.3% over the next 10 years, reaching a market size of about 1 trillion yen. Our company is also continuing to expand significantly, and to meet the demands of increased production, we plan to build a new factory in Minokamo City in 2025.

We are a comprehensive manufacturer of hydraulic cylinders used in “working vehicles”. We handle development, part manufacturing, and assembly of hydraulic cylinders utilized in special-purpose vehicles used in agriculture, construction, shipping, and aviation. Our IT department undertakes a wide range of tasks, including the in-house development and maintenance of internal IT systems, as well as evaluating and introducing IT equipment for manufacturing operations.

Q. What projects/services is your engineering team working on?
【Department Responsibilities】
1. Improving Production and Operations through IT
We are working on various IT-related projects such as
・Using IT devices to improve operational efficiency by enhancing data collection speed such as collecting data on the production floor.
・Visualizing the progress of manufacturing parts through data collection.
・Improving quality of part collection by using our in-house smartphone app for barcode verification.
2. Maintenance of Internal IT Equipment and Systems
Our responsibilties also include evaluating and supporting use of IT products and infrastructure such as
・Exploring customization options for outsourced production management systems
・Evaluating and planning the implementation of a new HR evaluation and labor management system
・Planning and overseeing the installation of internal WiFi access points
Main Internal IT Equipment: PCs, servers, printers, smartphones, Raspberry Pi, network devices, etc.
Main Internal IT Systems: in-house applications (web, Windows, smartphone, etc.), externally-developed systems (Production management system, HR systems, etc.)
Q. What technologies are you using?
We are committed to selecting IT equipment with a focus on in-house development and use of open-source solutions. While we do utilize external systems, we strive to develop as much of our core technology in-house as possible, which differentiates ourselves from other companies in the manufacturing industry.
Q. What type of engineers work at your company? What is their job content?
Our team consists of staff in their 20s to 40s,
including one American full-stack engineer / team leader, two Japanese programmers, and one Italian front-end developer / designer.
Along with more specialized duties, everyone is also involved with various internal IT and system-related tasks.

We plan to undertake various in-house development projects with an overall aim to produce a digital twin of our company, facilitating monitoring and improvement.
