Housing is one of the most important factors for a safe and healthy life in Japan. Will your company provide you with company housing or help you find a place to live? Have you ever discussed your concerns about finding housing with your HR department?

Let them know your concerns

If your employer provides company housing, or if a member of the HR department or a buddy employee helps you find housing, your concerns about finding a place to live are probably not so great.
If it is not clear whether or not such support is available, and you have not received detailed instructions on finding housing, you should express your concerns from your side.
Companies that have recently started hiring non-Japanese employees may not have any knowledge of what foreign nationals have trouble with or feel uneasy about when they start living in Japan. They may not know exactly how to help you, even if they are very willing to support you.
When discussing the issue, it is recommended to e-mail a list of concerns and questions in advance, and then discuss them in an interview based on the list. This will help them not only understand your feelings, but also make it easier to discuss specific support plans and create a to-do list.

Share house is a good choice

Unless you can move into company housing directly from the airport, you will need to secure a place to sleep for at least a certain period of time from Day 1 of your arrival.
The most realistic option is to sign up for a shared house or AirBnB on a weekly or monthly basis. While living in such accommodation, you can visit apartments on weekends or after work to decide on a place to live. These temporary residences can be booked through English-language websites and often come fully furnished with furniture, tableware, and cooking utensils, so the initial cost can be minimized.
If you live in a share house with many foreign residents, it is also helpful to be able to talk to them in English about any problems you may have. Even if you feel homesick, just having someone you can easily talk to around you will take your mind off your worries.

Start with English websites!

Finding a place to live involves a complicated procedure of signing a contract, which can be confusing even for Japanese if they have no prior experience. Don't hesitate to express your concerns to your company!
Start by looking for a place using English-language property websites and social media, which can be accessed from overseas!
Yaaay team is cheering you on and hoping that your life in Japan will be a great one!!
